Northwest University, Sokoto (NWUS), has pledged to mobilise its students for the Federal Government’s iDICE skills-to-jobs training programme, which targets more than 7,100 participants across Sokoto State.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mukhtar Umar Bunza, gave the assurance on Wednesday during a stakeholder meeting with Conclase, the programme’s implementing partner, at the university’s Senate Chamber.
Bunza said the university would work closely with the implementation team to ensure students benefit from the skills development initiative, which he described as consistent with the vision of the university’s founder, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
“We will ensure that the students are mobilised towards skills development,” he said, adding that Wamakko had approved the establishment of centres, including an entrepreneurship centre, to promote skills acquisition and innovation.
The meeting focused on strategies for implementing the programme across Sokoto State and strengthening collaboration between the university and Conclase.
Speaking at the meeting, the Sokoto State Programme Manager, Hassan Tela, disclosed that more than 12,000 candidates had registered for the programme, with accreditation and shortlisting of successful applicants expected to commence soon.
Tela said NWUS students had recorded encouraging participation, with registrations taking place at the Magatakarda ICT Centre.
The Chief Executive Officer of Conclase, Mujeeb Adeposi Bamiduro, stressed the importance of stronger collaboration with the university to ensure successful delivery of the programme across the state.
Also present were the university’s Registrar, Umar Musa Garunbabba; Bursar, Garba SB Shinkafi; deans of faculties and directors.
