The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, 52 days after the conclusion of the final paper.
The Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, disclosed that 96,979 candidates registered for the examination across 16 subjects, while 95,160 candidates eventually sat for the papers nationwide.
According to the performance analysis, 71.63 per cent of the candidates obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics. Subject-by-subject results show that 78.32 per cent of candidates earned credit passes in English Language, while 91.35 per cent recorded credit passes in Mathematics. Overall, 86.26 per cent of candidates secured five credits and above, irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.
On examination malpractice, Prof. Wushishi said 9,016 candidates were booked for various offences, representing a 31.7 per cent increase compared to the 2024 SSCE External examination. He added that NECO blacklisted five supervisors from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo states. In addition, four examination centres in Niger, Yobe, and Kano states were recommended for derecognition due to mass malpractice.
The 2025 SSCE External examination was conducted between November 26 and December 13, 2025, while the marking exercise took place from January 5 to January 21, 2026.
Prof. Wushishi described the timely release of the results as another milestone in NECO’s commitment to credible and efficient assessment. He also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support for the education sector, disclosing that states currently owe the examination body less than ₦2 billion.
