The Niger state commissioner of education, Mrs Hannatu Salihu says schools will reopen next week, emphasizing that there will be third term for public and private schools in the state.
Briefing newsmen shortly after stakeholders meeting on resumption of non-exit classes of the basic and secondary schools, she said that all schools will reopen for the 2019/2020 third term on the 4th of October 2020, and that the schools will go on holidays in December.
According to her, all second and third term examinations conducted by schools are cancelled while public primary and secondary schools will run morning and evening sessions.
“The re-opening of all basic and post basic classes of public and private institutions for third term of 2019/2020 academic for 4th October 2020 with exception of public boarding schools where only SS2 would resume on the same day using platooning model.
“JSS 1 and 2 are to attend morning classes and SS 1and 2 would attend evening classes. Public primary school schools 1 to 3 would attend morning classes while primary 3 to 6 would attend evening classes,” Mrs Salihu said.
The Commissioner stated that private schools, Tsangaya, Qur’anic Islamiyat and faith-based schools are to open and operate in line with COVID-19 Protocols.
She added that the first term for 2020/2021 will commence from Sunday 3rd January 2021.
The Chairman of the Niger state chapter of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, NAPPS, Mr Femi Isaac Alalade assured that the schools will do their best to meet up with the laid down procedures.
