Mrs. Franca Odiegwu, Headteacher of Woliwo Primary School II, Onitsha, Anambra State, has described the school’s victory at the just-concluded 2025 President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards as an act of divine favour.
The school emerged as the best school in Nigeria and received a 16-seater bus, among other prizes.
Speaking with journalists on Friday in Awka, Odiegwu attributed the feat to innovative measures introduced to improve the school’s learning environment.
“A good teacher is one who possesses a blend of personal qualities, professional skills, and ethical values that foster a positive and effective learning atmosphere.
Emerging as the best school in Nigeria was divine — God rewarded the hard work and dedication of our teachers,” she said.
Odiegwu explained that her administration had implemented several innovations, including the redesign of the school uniform, renovation and repainting of classrooms, and improved use of instructional materials.
She added that the school also benefited from government donations of learning equipment and teaching aids, which enhanced academic performance.
“One key factor that made the school stand out was our skill acquisition programme, where pupils were trained in making slippers, shoes, soaps, disinfectants, and basic computer operations,” she said.
The Headteacher commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his unwavering commitment to raising education standards across the state.
“Mr. Governor’s huge investment in the education sector has lifted learning standards to new heights.
Beyond recruiting qualified teachers, the government has also equipped schools with chairs, lockers, whiteboards, and other essential materials,” she said.
Odiegwu urged teachers to remain diligent, disciplined, and dedicated to their duties.
It was reported that Governor Soludo also awarded the school a cash prize of N10 million for its outstanding performance.
