The National Examination Council (NECO) says that it recorded 11,419 examination malpractice cases in the just concluded 2022 External Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
The Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi made this known while presenting the 2022 SSCE External results at the NECO Headquarters in Minna.
Wushishi described as alarming, the hike in the cases as observed during the just concluded examinations.
According to him, the council recorded 1,588 and 1,386 cases of malpractice during the conduct of Mathematics and English language exams respectively.For Geography and Economics,1,200 and 1,145 cases of malpractice were recorded.
Wushishi said that the council was able to book the cases due to enhanced monitoring and supervision.
“The number of candidates booked for various forms of malpractice is 11,419 as against 4,454 in 2021 which shows a sharp rise in the number of malpractice cases. This is largely due to the improvement in the strategy and technique adopted by the monitoring officers.
“This led to the blacklisting of four supervisors, one each from Rivers and Plateau states and two from Ogun state for aiding and abetting as well as poor supervision.
“Giving a breakdown of the results, the Registrar said that 59,124 candidates sat for 29 subjects that were examined adding that 57.36 percent got five Credits and above including English language and Mathematics.
“The number of candidates that sat for English language is 58,012 out of which 44,162 representing 76.13 got Credit and above. The number of candidates that sat for Mathematics is 57,700 out of which 43,096 representing 74.69 percent got Credit and above.
“The number of candidates who got five Credits and above, including English language and Mathematics is 33,914 representing 57.36 percent. Also, 46,825 candidates representing 79.20 percent got five Credits and above irrespective of English language and Mathematics”, he said.
