Oshiomhole hails CBN’s bold economic reforms, calls for continued policy discipline

Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing the Edo North Senatorial District and a member of the Senate Committee on Finance, has commended the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for its recent reform efforts, describing them as bold and necessary steps towards economic stability.

Oshiomhole made the remarks on Friday while responding to a presentation from the CBN leadership during an interactive session with members of the President’s economic team in Abuja.

The CBN Governor, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, was represented at the session by the Deputy Governor in charge of Economic Policy, Dr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi.

Speaking to lawmakers, Oshiomhole acknowledged that although he had been critical of the CBN’s management when it was first appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he now sees the Bank’s reforms as impactful and worthy of support.

“I was one of those who were very critical when you were appointed, but today, I am one of your marketers,” he said, urging the Bank to remain focused and free from political interference.

Dr. Abdullahi had earlier outlined the CBN’s reform agenda, highlighting measures taken to moderate food and headline inflation and support exchange rate stability.

He also reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to achieving single-digit inflation over time and stressed the importance of close coordination between fiscal and monetary authorities to sustain economic stability and growth.

Oshiomhole’s endorsement reflects a notable shift in perspective from earlier scepticism and signals growing confidence among some lawmakers in the direction of the central bank’s policy actions.

The CBN’s reform strategy comes amid wider efforts by economic managers to curb inflationary pressures, stabilise the naira and restore macroeconomic balance—priorities that have been under intense public and legislative scrutiny.
