Association marks 30 years with tree-planting in Lagos

The Association of Corporate Communications and Marketing Professionals in Banks (ACAMB) has begun activities to mark its 30th anniversary with a tree-planting initiative in Lagos.

This initiative reaffirms its commitment to environmental sustainability, ethical communication, and the reputation of the banking industry.

It was reported that the exercise held on Providence Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, brought together banking communication leaders, industry veterans, and stakeholders.

The event was led by ACAMB President, Mr. Jide Sipe, and the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Mr. Akin Morakinyo.

ACAMB Vice Presidents, Mrs. Chinwe Bode-Akinwande and Mrs. Morolake Onifade, past and current executive committee members, as well as heads of marketing and corporate communications from various banks, also participated.

Representatives of banks planted trees named after their institutions to symbolize the industry’s collective commitment to environmental stewardship, growth, and long-term sustainability.

At the event, Sipe said the initiative reflected ACAMB’s enduring mission to preserve the integrity of the banking sector and encourage responsible competition among financial institutions.

“Thirty years ago, a handful of professionals chose to prioritize the reputation of the banking industry above rivalry.

“We stand today on the foundation they laid, and every tree planted here represents our commitment to nurturing credibility, strengthening trust, and enhancing our collective brand value,” he said.

According to him, the initiative is part of ACAMB’s contribution to society as it celebrates three decades of promoting professionalism in banking communications.

Sipe mentioned that the anniversary celebration would continue until September, with activities including a Golf and Networking Experience on June 27 at the Ikoyi Club, Lagos, and a Gala Night on September 30.

“We are celebrating three decades with purpose, impact, and appreciation for the journey so far,” he said.

Morakinyo unveiled ACAMB’s 30th anniversary logo and commended the association for maintaining a productive relationship with the institute over the years.

He urged members to continue upholding professionalism and ethical standards in their responsibilities.

Reflecting on the association’s journey, former ACAMB President, Dr. Eddie Ademosu, noted that the body was established in 1996 by representatives of IBWA (later Afribank), Union Bank, NEXIM Bank, First Bank, and the Central Bank of Nigeria.

He said the founders envisioned an association that would promote healthy competition, collaboration, and mutual respect among banks.

Additionally, ACAMB Board of Trustees member, Mr. Ogie Eboigbe, stated that the association emerged at a time when unhealthy rivalry among banks affected public confidence in the financial sector.

According to him, ACAMB has since played a strategic role in promoting ethical communication, professionalism, and a positive image for the banking industry.

Founded in 1996, ACAMB remains the umbrella body for corporate communications and marketing professionals in the banking sector, promoting best practices, stakeholder trust, and responsible engagement.
