The Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Maj.-Gen. Oluyemi Olatoye, has urged newly promoted senior officers to redouble their efforts in tackling the nation’s security challenges and justify the confidence reposed in them by the Armed Forces.
This is contained in a statement on Thursday in Kaduna by Maj. Reuben Kovangiya, the NDA Public Relations Officer.
He said Olatoye gave the charge during the decoration of officers elevated to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and their equivalents in the Nigerian Navy and Air Force.
He reminded the officers of the core values of their respective services, stressing the need for these principles to reflect in both their personal conduct and professional duties.
He also cautioned against actions capable of bringing disrepute to the academy and the Armed Forces.
The commandant urged those posted to new assignments following their promotion to serve as worthy ambassadors of the NDA and role models to junior officers.
He emphasised that their elevation comes with greater responsibility, noting that “to whom much is given, much is expected,” and encouraged them to deepen their knowledge of leadership, command, and character in preparation for higher responsibilities.
Olatoye also called on family members and well-wishers to continue supporting the officers, saying such encouragement remains vital to their success.
Kovangiya said a total of 10 officers were decorated at the ceremony, including six Lieutenant Colonels, three Commanders, and one Wing Commander.
