The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence and Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Anti Corruption, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, has donated one hundred and five ( 105), motorcycles to the member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).

ASHENEWSONLINE reports that Wamakko made the pledge last week when he paid condolence visit to Tangaza local government over the killing of a Divisional Police Officer and an Inspector of Police and cases of kidnapping.

While the Senator pledged to give five motorcycles to the vigilantes in each of the 21 local governments of the state, he also said he provide special packages to Sokoto North and Sokoto South local governments.

Wamakko, who presented the motorcycles to the vigilantes in Binji, Wamakko, Silame, Kware, Tangaza and Gudu local government areas, which makes up Sokoto North Senatorial District on Thursday, again delivered similar motorcycles to the vigilantes in Gada, Illela, Goronyo, Isa, Sabon Birni, Wurno, Rabah and Gwadabawa local government areas, which form Sokoto East Senatorial District.

The Senator also promised that vigilantes in Dange/Shuni, Tureta, Shagari, Yabo, Bodinga, Kebbe and Tambuwal local government areas, which form Sokoto South Senatorial District will get their motorcycles in the next few days.

Speaking at the ceremony held at his Gawon Nama residence, Wamakko who was represented by the state chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Alhaji Isa Achida said that the gesture was borne out of his sincere concern about the disturbing insecurity in the state.

“I have been sleepless nights about the obnoxious security situation in the state and I am always pondering on how to provide plausible solutions to the problem. This is also my own widow’s to complement the efforts of the various security agencies, to combat the myriad of security challenges in the state and Nigeria, in general,” he said.

Wamakko warned the beneficiaries against selling the motorcycles, adding that “they should be used wisely, operate according to your ethics and in active collaboration with security agencies.”

The State VGN Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Maikwalli commended Senator Wamakko for the gesture,  just as he vowed that, the motorcycles would be put to proper use .

According to Maikwalli, “We are really elated with this noble gesture which will greatly facilitate our routine operations.”
