The International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC) has commenced a three-day First Aid training for journalists in Borno.
Speaking at the commencement of the training in Maiduguri on Tuesday, a Communication personnel with the ICRC, Mr. Patrick Griffiths said the training would equip journalists in the frontline state with basic knowledge on first aid.
Griffiths said the training would also educate journalists on the role of ICRC and its fundamental principles to enable them enlighten the public on its role as a neutral and the largest humanitarian network in the world.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Borno Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr Dauda Iliya, lauded the initiative by ICRC and urged members pay attention for maximum benefit from the training.
Iliya urged other humanitarian organizations operating in the state to carry journalists along as the media has critical role to play in emergencies.
Some of the presentations including practical’s to be made at the three-day training by experts from ICRC include Introduction to First Aid Practice; Safety and Security; Casualty Removal and Transportation; Handling Shock; and Content of First Aid Kit and Uses.
