Bandit attacks: Niger governor sends delegation to Kagara, vows to tackle banditry

Niger state governor, Abubakar Sani-Bello has sent a delegation led by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahmed Matane to Kagara, headquarters of Rafi local government, over recent cases of banditry in the area.

He reassured the people of the state of his administration’s commitment to reinstate peace and security to the areas experiencing distress as a result of armed banditry and kidnapping.

The delegation was in Kagara to condole with the Emir of Kagara, Alhaji Salihu Tanko, and the people of the emirate over the unfortunate killing of the District Head of Madaka, Malam Zakari Yau Idris and the kidnapping of the District Head of Gunna, Alhaji Abdulhameed Mohammed who is still being held by the bandits.

Matane described as sad and unfortunate the killing and kidnapping of the District Heads, stressing that government was worried about the activities of armed bandits, kidnappers.

The SSG condemned in strong terms, the degree of carnage and mayhem bandits and kidnappers were causing to some parts of the state and reiterated the government’s continued determination the rid the state of any security threat.

“The present administration led by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello will continue to vote resources necessary to address our security challenges and support the security agencies in the state, to find a lasting solution to the insecurity bedeviling the State”.

He then called on the people of the State to intensify prayers, be very vigilant, security conscious and report any suspicious characters, movements, or objects to security agencies, adding that security is everybody’s business and that all hands must be on deck in complementing government efforts toward safeguarding lives and property of citizens.

In his remarks, the Chief of State to the Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe enjoined the people of Kagara Emirate and Nigerlites as a whole, to pray fervently in order to put an end to the ungodly situation.

He reassured the people of the Emirate and the State of the present administration’s readiness to step up efforts toward curbing armed banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in the State.

Earlier, the chairman, Rafi local givernment, Samaila Dan-Modibbo called on the federal government to establish Military Super Camp in the area.

The chairman expressed optimism that the establishment of Military Super Camp would no doubt address the migration, unacceptable wanton carnage, and other security challenges perpetrated by bandits, kidnappers, and cattle rustlers in the area.

Responding, the Emir of Kagara, Alhaji Salihu Tanko represented by Tafidan Kagara, Alhaji Shahabudeen Isah told the delegation that Kagara Emirate is in a security crisis, especially the activities of armed bandits and called on the State Government to expedite action towards the establishment of Military Super Camp in the area.

He commended the state government for not resting on its oars in the protection of lives and properties of the citizenry as well as the provision of adequate security to the people.
