The Sokoto State Police Commissioner, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel has warned officers and men of the command not to engage in inter-agency rivalry with other sister security agencies in the state.

Gumel in his New Year message made available to ASHENEWS on Sunday, urged them to rather work in harmony towards rancour-free electioneering as well as fighting insecurity in the state.

“In this election period, we expect you to work in synergy with our sister security agencies to have secure electioneering and to support the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to to able to conduct free, fair, transparent, and credible elections.

“I also encourage you to always remain professional by maintaining neutrality throughout the period in accordance with the provision of electoral guidelines, code of conducts, electoral act, and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the CP said.

It is the end of 2022 and the beginning of another year, 2023. It is a time to give thanks, to Almighty God and the IGP. Also to reflect, and together look forward on better way of providing the best policing architecture in the state.

He commended the Command’s officers and men for their commitment in the discharge of their duties.

“I would like to seize this opportunity to appreciate you all for your hard work, dedication and commitment to the service of our dear state. We thank you for the results achieved during the outgone year, despite the challenges that abound in the course of discharging these constitutional responsibilities,” he said.

According to Gumel, the Command received two batches of 800 newly recruited constables in 2022 to add to its strength and thanked the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba.

“It is therefore expected that with the additional complimentary staff from relevant security agencies, there will be significant progress towards reducing the security challenges in some parts of the state as well as effective policing of the forthcoming general elections.

“We are good to go with the expected police roles in the forthcoming general elections. I thank the IGP Usman Alkali Baba for his foresight in empowering the police force to discharge its duties efficiently.

“It is our expectation that with the immediate initiatives taken, added to your  hard work, perseverance and determination, we will enjoy successes this year,” the CP added.

Gumel expressed delight for the support of the state government, traditional rulers, the media, and other stakeholders.

“Our stakeholders have generally been very supportive. We are grateful to the state government, PCRC, academic institutions, the stimulators of the economy, traditional and religious institutions etc who participated in our activities during the year,” he said.

“The police in the state prides itself on its convening power and ability to gain the confidence of the people based on the solidarity support and shared policing vision of the current IGP Usman Alkali Baba. This is made possible with the guidance of this great leader we have. We are grateful to him for the exceptional leadership and commitment to our policing drive.”
