The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has detained the Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON) Osita Okechukwu. He was reportedly detained on Saturday over alleged case of conspiracy, abuse of office and misappropriation of public funds to the tune of N1.3 billion. Okechukwu, who reportedly arrived the commission headquarters at about 1.30pm to honour its invitation, was still being detained at the time of filing this report. When ASHENEWS called the spokesperson of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren for comment, the call went unanswered.
ASHENEWS – JAN. 29, 2022 – The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has released operational guidelines on the Global Service Instructions (GSI), aimed at checking the spate of bad loans within the banking sector. Acute food insecurity is likely to deteriorate further in Nigeria and 19 other countries, particularly between February and May 2022, a new report jointly anchored by the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) has warned. Of the identified “20 hunger hotspots,” the report stated that Ethiopia, Nigeria, South Sudan and Yemen remained at the highest alert level from the previous edition of its report.
