The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reiterated its position that it would not yield to the request of political parties to adjust the timetable for the 2023 general elections. The federal government has disclosed that it is working assiduously in collaboration with relevant sectors and stakeholders to intensify surveillance in the animal population to prevent the outbreak of monkey pox in the country. The Director General of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Dr Ifedayo Adetifa says a national multisectoral Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) for Monkeypox has been activated in the  country. Adetifa, who disclosed this on Friday, said the move followed a risk assessment conducted by the NCDC on Monkeypox outbreaks in multiple countries. The DG said EOC would continue to coordinate ongoing response activities in the country while contributing to the global response. The African Development Bank (AfDB) says the heat-tolerant wheat production, being supported by the Bank in Nigeria, will help reduce importation of the product by 40 per cent by 2023.
