The National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued 29 victims of trafficking in Kebbi state. The Zonal Commander in-charge of Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States, Misba’u Iya-Kaura, confirmed this to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday. He said the agency in collaboration with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and NAPTIP rescued 21 victims at Kangiwa axis on their way to Senegal, while the remaining eight were rescued in different parts of the state. The Enugu state government has suspended the traditional ruler of Ekpulato Mgbowo in Awgu Council Area of the state, Igwe Greg Ituma, over security issues. The suspension is contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Chieftaincy Matters, Dr Charles Egumgbe, on Saturday in Enugu. The statement said that the suspension was sequel to allegations of conduct inimical to the security of the state. It added that the suspension of Ituma will pave the way for pending investigations, subsequent findings and recommendations to the state government.

Namibia has been hit by another outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in the Zambezi region, which is located in the extreme north-east of the country. Agricultural officials said this in an e-mailed statement on Saturday. The country’s Chief Veterinary Officer, Albertina Shilongo said the areas of Kabbe South and North constituencies had been declared FMD-infected areas, while the entire Zambezi region was declared a disease management area (DMA).
