A professor of medicine at Bayero University, Kano, and kidney specialist at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Dr. Aliyu Abdu, revealed over the weekend that around 10,000 kidneys are sold on the black market worldwide every year. The Sokoto State Government, through its Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has started officially training boat drivers and operators in the state. This is part of their efforts to stop accidents during floods and avoid boat-related deaths.
