FRSC says a number of vehicles were destroyed in a tanker explosion at Ogere on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Tuesday. FRSC Sector Commander in Ogun, Mr Ahmed Umar, who confirmed the incident said that it occurred at about 6.20 a.m. Umar explained that the explosion occurred in front of Romona trailer park at Ogere. “The fire is serious; the number of vehicles involved cannot be ascertained yet. “Ogun State Fire Service has arrived the scene, while FRSC operatives are on ground managing the traffic situation,’’ he said. The Sokoto zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, secured the conviction of Murtala Abdullateef before Justice Malami Dogondaji of the Sokoto State High Court on one count charge, for attempting to defraud foreigners through Facebook while presenting himself as a United States Army General serving in war-torn Syria. President Muhammadu Buhari of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has appointed George Ekpungu as the Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The appointment is for a fresh tenure of five years. Also appointed as Board Members of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission are Luqman Muhammad (South South), Anumba Adaeze (South East), Kole Adesina (North Central) and Yahya Muhammad (North East). The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, said on Monday in Abuja that it would deploy 5,346 personnel to 2,673 registration centres for Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) resuming nationwide on June 28. Its chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the declaration at the presentation of INEC Voter Enrolment Device (IVED) and online registration portal for the exercise at a meeting he held with media executives. IVED is an Android tablet to be used in place of the existing Data Capturing Machine used for CVR in previous exercises. The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday, fixed July 13 for hearing in a suit filed by Slok Nigeria Limited, a company belonging to former Governor of Abia, Orji Uzor Kalu, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The Nigerian equities market began trading for the week on Monday still on negative mood with 0.27 per cent loss due to renewed profit taking. Specifically, the All-Share Index which opened for the week at 38,648.91 shed 103.61 points or 0.27 per cent to close at 38,545.30.
