When I set out to monitor the second round of the polio vaccination campaign in Sokoto South Local Government Area, I expected to witness just another routine health exercise. But what I encountered along Lokoja Road, Emir Yahaya Road, and the surrounding neighborhoods was far more stirring—a powerful mix of resilience, rejection, and hope, carried by the unsung heroes on the frontlines of public health. By Usman Mohammed Binji My first stop was the Lokoja Road area. It was early morning, and the streets were already teeming with life—children ran barefoot through the dust, traders arranged their goods, and motorcycles…
Lagos State Governorship Candidate of the Labour (LP) in the 2023 elections, Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has expressed dismay over what he described as a theatrical display by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the commissioning of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, which he claimed is barely 5 percent completed. The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road is a 700-kilometre project expected to begin from the shores of Lagos Island—specifically Victoria Island in the former Colony of Lagos—and stretch all the way to Calabar, in Nigeria’s South-South region. Objectv Media, a social media platform, had earlier challenged the President’s claim that 30 kilometers of the project…

Amidst thousands of unread WhatsApp messages, with more flowing in as Sallah day, Friday, June 6, 2025, progresses, I noticed an unusually lengthy message sent to my direct message (DM) by a well-respected senior professor; I couldn’t help but pay attention to it. It was a message announcing the death of Prof. Abubakar Roko from the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Physical and Computing, after failing to crowdfund an N13 million medical bill in Egypt. In quick sessions, three articles on the matter were posted on the ASUU ABU Platform: When the System Hates Knowledge by Dr. Kabiru Danladi…
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a consignment of Loud—a potent cannabis strain—disguised as green tea at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos. The 66 parcels, weighing 62.20kg, were smuggled from Thailand via the UAE aboard an Emirates flight. Acting on credible intelligence, the agency placed the cargo under surveillance for over three weeks before conducting a joint examination on June 5, 2025. In a separate operation along Lekki-Ajah expressway, NDLEA operatives seized another 1,665kg of skunk on June 2, arresting two suspects: Gidado Abdulrasaq Ayinde and Obanla Oluwafemi. The crackdown extended to Kaduna,…
