The Niger House of Assembly has threatened to shut down the three hydro-electric power dams located in the state, if the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) failed to improve power supply to residents. The assembly also issued a 21-day ultimatum to AEDC to supply 24-hours power to residents of the state, and to also provide customers with prepaid meters. A High Court in Gusau, presided by Justice Bello Shinkafi on Wednesday dismissed a suit filed by local government council Chairmen challenging their dissolution. The council chairmen, who were dissolved by the state government on June 4, 2020, challenged the action positing that, as duly elected officials, their tenure had not expired. Those council chairmen that filed the case challenging their removal include Bakura local government, Alhaji Dandare Dakko, Gummi local government, Alhaji Sanusi Sarkin-Aski, Shinkafi local government Alhaji Sani Galadi, Gusau local government. Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro has called the United States a threat to world peace. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported 111 new cases of COVID-19 in the country. NCDC made this known on its official twitter handle on Wednesday. According to the agency, with the new infections, the total number of confirmed cases in the country is now 57, 724. It disclosed that 149 persons were discharged after being successfully treated and had recovered from the coronavirus.
