The Nigerian troops operating under Operation Hadarin Daji, have rescued two teachers and five students abducted on Thursday from Federal Government College Yauri, the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu said in a statement on Friday. According to him, the rescue by the troops who have been on a hot pursuit of the kidnappers and bandits, came after a fierce exchange of fire with the criminals. By Lizzy Carr, Bauchi Death toll from cholera outbreaks in Bauchi state has risen to 42, the chairperson of the state primary healthcare develoment agency, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed has disclosed. Giving an update in an interview with ASHENEWS on Friday, Mohammed said Bauchi local government has the highest number of recorded death with 22 deaths and 2,185 infections, followed by Toro local government area, which recorded eight deaths and 212 infections. ASHENEWS recalls that Bauchi state, as at 16th June, recorded 2,874 cases in 16 local government areas and neighbouring Bassa local government area of Plateau state.
The Presidency says President Muhammadu Buhari will participate in the 59th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Accra, Ghana, on Saturday. Kaduna state governor, Nasir El’Rufai says the government sacked 99 political appointees as part of its right sizing. El-Rufai made the disclosure at news briefing on Friday, saying that the government was yet to disengage any state civil servant in the state. The governor explained that the disengaged political appointees constituted 30 per cent of political office holders in the state. The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) says it directly lifted no fewer than 1,040 dry season farmers out of poverty in Enugu State. The number of persons killed in Thursday’s gas tanker explosion at the Ogun State Property Investment Company (OPIC) Plaza in Ikeja has risen to five. Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, the Acting Zonal Coordinator, South West Zonal Office, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), confirmed the development in Ikeja-Lagos.
