As the deadline was not practical due to traffic chaos in Lagos, the state government extended the time for compliance to 9pm. This debate on Maulud exasperates me. On one side are the Izala followers who call it – Bid’ah (an innovation with no roots in Islam), on the other hand are the Tijjaniya followers who believe there’s nothing wrong in celebrating the prophet’s birthday. A needless argument; not necessary for our society’s collective progress if you ask me. Needless because, no Tijjaniya follower would abandon what Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi says to accept what one Anas from Magama Gumau says on Facebook. Same with the Izalas, none of whom would leave what Sheikh Daurawa says to accept what a stranger says on…
The developed world — especially Western Europe and North America — have embraced genetic engineering in the medical field, mainly because the benefits can be seen directly. However, when it comes to agriculture, the benefits of genetic engineering are not immediately and directly noticeable; thus, public’s support of genetic engineering in agriculture is low, particularly in Europe. Some of the most renowned anti-GM organizations with well-oiled machinery in funding and information propagation are domiciled in western countries. These organizations, which also come with ties to political parties and forces, have disseminated a range of misleading and outright false claims of…
