The Sokoto State Chapter of the Initiative for Better and Brighter Nigeria (IBBN) has called for increased involvement of women and youths in politics, describing it as essential for strengthening democratic growth and sustainable governance in Nigeria.

The appeal was made during a political sensitisation programme themed “Women and Youth Involvement in Politics: A Panacea for Democratic Growth,” organised by the group in Sokoto.

In his address, the Sokoto State Chairman of IBBN, Ambassador Wakili Ibrahim, explained that the event aimed to educate women and youths on the critical importance of active participation in political processes at all levels.

“The future of Nigeria’s democracy depends largely on how these vital segments of society engage in governance and political affairs,” he said.

Ambassador Ibrahim highlighted IBBN’s motto, “New Breed without Greed,” which underscores the organisation’s mission to cultivate a new generation of leaders untainted by corruption and committed to credible, responsible leadership that uplifts citizens’ lives.

He credited the initiative’s founder and Global Chairman, Dr. Isa El-Buba, for nurturing the vision and driving its expansion to all 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory.

“Dr. El-Buba has shown tireless dedication and sacrifice to make the dream of a better and brighter Nigeria a reality,” Ibrahim noted.

He also commended Sokoto chapter members for their resilience, commitment, and hard work in advancing the organisation’s objectives.

Ibrahim reaffirmed IBBN’s readiness to collaborate with like-minded organisations and individuals to build a Nigeria where justice prevails, citizens are treated equally, competent leaders emerge, and good governance becomes the norm.

“We must all put our hands on deck to salvage our country from the challenges confronting it today. Nigeria has the people, the resources, and the potential to succeed; what we need is collective commitment and responsible leadership,” he declared.

Delivering a lecture at the programme, Prof. Ogundiya Ilufoye Sarafa, a political scientist from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, stressed the need to strengthen democratic institutions through inclusive political participation by marginalised groups, particularly women and youths.

The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Sokoto State chapter, Dr. Kayode James Moses appreciated the organisers and encouraged young people to engage actively in politics as a pathway to national development.

Similarly, the Chairman of traditional rulers present, Eze Tobi Gbaghara (Eze Igbo III and Sarkin Igbo III in Sokoto State), praised the initiative and urged the organisers to hold such programmes regularly, describing them as vital platforms for political awareness and civic education.

The event drew representatives from CAN, traditional leaders, various political parties, women groups, and youth organisations from across Sokoto State.

The sensitisation programme reflects IBBN’s ongoing efforts to promote ethical leadership, inclusivity, and active citizenship as foundations for a stronger, more equitable democratic Nigeria.
