Kano state governor, Abba Yusuf says that his government is prosecuting cases of misappropriation to the tune N5,436,000,000 against the immediate past Ganduje administration.

The governor, represented by his deputy, Aminu Gwarzo, stated this during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

A statement issued by Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, on Thursday, gave a detailed breakdown of the fraudulent activities currently before the courts:

“Four Billion Naira (N4,000,000,000) of Kano state funds were siphoned through the Kano State Agricultural Supply Company.”

“Another case involves Four Hundred and Thirty-Six Million Naira (N436,000,000) of stealing government funds under the pretext of procuring long-lasting mosquito treatment nets.”

“Equally, a One Billion Naira (N1,000,000,000) case of diverted funds stolen under the guise of renovating 30 roads within the metropolitan areas – all now before the courts,” Governor Abba disclosed.

SOLACEBASE reports that Governor Yusuf acknowledged the challenging task of combating corruption, maladministration, and injustice, particularly in a state with a history of kleptocrats in power.

He emphasized that Kano is now the only state successfully investigating and prosecuting five grand corruption cases within the first six months of the NNPP-led administration.

Highlighting the administration’s determination, Governor Yusuf noted that , “Sometimes, my attorney general personally appears in court during those trials to demonstrate the administration’s commitment to rid the state of corruption.”

Earlier Speaking, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, Chairman of the ICPC, expressed gratitude to the Governor for the opportunity to meet, citing the Commission’s recent Management Retreat in the state as the reason for the courtesy call.

Reflecting on the past collaboration between ICPC and the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission in training initiatives, the Chairman sought continuous partnership with the agency in the collective effort to combat corruption.

In a goodwill message, Chairman, Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission, Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado reiterated the determination of the commission to intensify the fight against corruption despite various challenges from some of the accused.
