The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has dismissed as false a viral video alleging a ₦50 billion bribery scandal, describing the content as fabricated and warning of impending legal action against those responsible.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the commission said the video, widely circulated on social media, had no connection to its operations or any ongoing investigation. It emphasised that the claims presented in the footage were entirely fictitious and intended to mislead the public.
ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare explained that elements of the video, including images and referenced identities, were manipulated, with some portions allegedly generated using artificial intelligence to create a false impression of authenticity.
The commission further clarified that it was not investigating any individual, including any Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), group of lawyers, or judicial officer in relation to the purported ₦50 billion bribe. It emphasised that no such case or transaction exists in its records.
Describing the content as malicious disinformation, the anti-graft agency cautioned members of the public against spreading unverified information and urged them to rely only on official communication channels.
The ICPC also warned the creators and distributors of the video to cease immediately, stating that it would pursue legal action against anyone found culpable in the production or dissemination of the false material.
Reaffirming its mandate, the commission noted that it remains committed to conducting credible, evidence-based investigations in line with the law, while safeguarding its institutional integrity from misuse.
