Fontana Society, a technology-based membership platform, unveiled an emergency health card scheme on Tuesday in Lagos to provide easy access to healthcare during emergencies.
The President of the Society, Anthony Kila said the Fontana Emergency Health Card was initiated to address some of the challenges in accessing and providing quality emergency healthcare in the country.
According to Kila, the card, which is the first of its kind in West Africa, will enable the card holders to pay for treatment, medication, and other services needed during emergencies.
He said: “The Fontana Health Card is a major milestone in the health sector of Nigeria, as it allows users and providers to overcome a lot of the challenges that they face in the process of accessing quality care during emergencies.
“The essence of humanity comes out when life is at stake, and that is why the card was initiated by society to reduce preventable deaths during emergencies.
“The card can only be used in emergency situations, and it is also transferable to whoever the cardholder wants to benefit from their package.
“The card is seamless, sensible, and smart to use for individuals who intend to make use of the affordable services it renders.”
Kila commended hospitals, pharmacies, diagnostic centers, and other healthcare providers that were quick to understand the vision and were able to meet the required standards to participate in the program.
Speaking earlier, the Business Director of the Fontana Emergency Health Card, Dr. Fola Rogers described the initiative as a major milestone in the nation’s health sector.
“This momentous occasion is a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and relentless pursuit of excellence to make healthcare accessible to Nigerians during medical emergencies.
“Several months of dedication, hard work, and pushing boundaries have finally paid off with the unveiling of this card,” she said.
