Media Mentors Network in collaboration with the Wole Soyinka Center for Investigative Journalism, the Report for Women Project, ASHENEWS, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Center for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) is hosting a summit for women in the media.
The summit slated for Wednesday 18th October and Thursday, 19th October will take place at the IBB Penhouse in Minna, Niger State.
Conversations during this event will focus on “empowering women journalists for Gender Inclusive Reporting and Leadership.”
The Special Adviser to the Niger state governor on Print Media, Aisha Wakaso, the MD/CEO, of Elina Media Limited and General Manager, of Ultimate FM, Celine Moses Alkali, and the Project Officer at the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) Osaruonamen Ibizugbe will be addressing participants during the summit as special guests.
Other speakers include Dr. Valda Martins, a lecturer at the Federal University of Technology Minna, the Assistant Director, of News at NTA Minna, Fatima Aliyu, and Aisha Gambo Danazumi, the founder of, the Women Supporting Women Initiative.
The Niger Women In Media Summit aims to address the critical issues around women’s participation in the media space and also promote inclusivity in the state’s media space.
According to the convener of the program, Justina Asishana, the event will allow women in the media to gain the requisite leadership insights from experts while providing them with an opportunity to network with fellow female journalists and other industry experts.
This is in addition to promoting collaboration in the interest of women’s development in the media.
Those eligible to attend the summit include female journalists, female information officers, women in editorial positions, women media educators and researchers, women in public relations, female broadcasters, female students studying journalism or related fields as well as women media executives.
The summit is also open to female students who may not be studying journalism but are interested in the field.
