The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast cloudy conditions, thunderstorms and varying levels of rainfall across Nigeria from Sunday to Tuesday.
In its latest weather outlook, the agency said the northern region would experience sunny skies with patches of clouds on Sunday, with chances of early morning thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Borno, Taraba and Adamawa states.
It added that thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall were expected across most parts of the region during the afternoon and evening.
For the North-Central region, NiMet predicted sunny skies with patches of clouds and possible early morning thunderstorms with light rains over parts of Kwara, Niger, Kogi and the Federal Capital Territory. Moderate thunderstorms were expected in most areas later in the day.
The agency also forecast cloudy conditions across southern Nigeria, with light morning rains possible in parts of Oyo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states. Moderate rainfall was expected later in the day over parts of Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
NiMet said Monday would bring sunny skies with patches of clouds over the North, with morning thunderstorms and moderate rains possible in parts of Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara.
Later in the day, thunderstorms and moderate rains were expected over parts of Yobe, Jigawa, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba and Adamawa states.
The North-Central region was expected to remain partly cloudy on Monday, with morning thunderstorms and moderate rains possible over parts of Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa and the FCT.
Across the South, NiMet forecast cloudy conditions and light morning rains, particularly in the South-West, followed by moderate rains over parts of the South-South and South-East later in the day.
For Tuesday, the agency predicted generally sunny conditions with patches of clouds over the North during the morning, while thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains were expected later over parts of Katsina, Kano, Kebbi, Kaduna and the North-East.
Thunderstorms with moderate rainfall were also forecast across most parts of the North-Central region during the afternoon and evening.
The southern region was expected to remain cloudy, with possible light morning rains over parts of Akwa Ibom and Cross River and moderate rainfall later in the day.
NiMet warned that strong winds could precede thunderstorms and advised residents to take necessary precautions.
It urged members of the public to secure loose objects, avoid driving during heavy rainfall, disconnect electrical appliances during thunderstorms and stay away from tall trees because of the risk of falling branches.
The agency also advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to aid flight planning and urged residents to stay updated through official weather alerts.
The forecast is particularly relevant to communities in areas prone to flooding and storm-related disruptions as the rainy season continues.
