Bauchi State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has commence a two-day capacity building for officials of the state ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) on demographic dividend to accelerate economic growth and Development.
Permanent Secretary, Bauchi State Ministry of health, Ali Babayo said that the demographic dividend would support the state in formulating its policies and programs.
“Demographic dividend is a tool for generating statistics and feedback mechanisms in the state.
Permanent Secretary, Bauchi State Ministry for Budget and Economic Planning Saleh Idris said the objective of the workshop is to build the capacity of directors on developing potentials for harnessing demographic dividend in the state.
“For countries aspiring to harness demographic dividend,they must target policy investment in equitable and inclusive health care services( sexual and reproductive health), education and skills development.”
Other targeted investments are Education,skills Development, governance, youth participation and employment and entrepreneurship,” he said.
In his presentation on the concept of demographic dividend,UNFPA assistant representative Dashed Dasogot said that the strategies for demographic dividend includes child Survival, child birth spacing and girl child education.
He added that the main contribution of demographic dividend is a massive growth in GDP and will put the country on the path of sustainable development, reduce unemployment, increase assets acquisition and wealth increase.
Head of office Kaduna state office UNFPA Lloyd Umkomgo said demographic dividend can only be achieved if state actors work together.
