ASHENEWS reports that the Lagos state government has announced the suspension of the General Manager of the Lagos State Infrastructure and Asset Management Agency.

The state government also blacklisted the facility managers as part of the resolution reached by the committee set up to investigate the circumstances leading to the death of a doctor at the General Hospital, Odan.

Vwaere Diaso, a medical house officer died on Aug. 1, following injuries sustained when the elevator she was in crashed in the staff quarters of the hospital.

A statement issued by Olumide Sogunle
Permanent Secretary of, the Ministry of Information and Strategy said that the committee in its resolutions also recommended the prosecution of anyone found culpable in the incident.

“The operations and line of reporting of the facility managers have been restructured to involve the hospital management directly.

‘The Lagos Safety Commission has been directed to immediately carry out an audit of all elevators in public offices. This is besides the usual safety arrangements that have always existed.

“We have handed the installation and maintenance contractors to the police for further investigation and likely prosecution if they are found culpable. The police will also investigate anyone else that might have been found to be negligent.

“Engineers are working to unravel why all the safety devices of the elevator failed at the same time,” the statement said.

Sogunle, while conveying the state governments regret over the incident assured that all our staff of the ministry are fully insured.

“We have informed our life insurance providers about this incident,” the permanent secretary added.
