A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Niger State, Mohammed Nma Kolo has encouraged farmers in the state to take full advantage of the agricultural development initiative unveiled by Governor Umar Bago.
Kolo, who is also the Jawon of Minna urged the farmers to key into the state government’s drive to boost agriculture which includes the purchase of 300 new tractors and targeting 180,000 bags of fertilizer for this farming season.
He commended the government for the take-off of the 2023 farming season, sales, and distribution of fertilizer as well as other agricultural inputs to farmers in the state at a subsidized rate.
Governor Bago’s initiative, Kolo stated, was aimed at boosting agricultural activities and guaranteeing food security in line with his administration’s policy thrust on agriculture.
He commended the government for approving a 20 percent subsidy of 100 trucks (600 tonnes) of fertilizer for each bag of 50kg of fertilizer to be sold at N18,000 as against the open market price of N24,000 to N30,000.
