An Abuja Judicial Division High court has sentenced one Abdulrahman Aliyu, an indigene of Adamawa State to six years imprisonment.
Aliyu was earlier charged with three counts charges for allegedly duping one Chubado Tijjani Babbi of N250 million.
According to the Financial intelligence unit of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Aliyu under pretense and dubious means used Echo Logistics Limited company and dumped Babbi two hundred and fifty million naira (250,000,000).
Delivering the judgment, Justice F Emessiri said that she found him guilty of all the three counts of charges brought against him.
She said that the accused also committed a criminal breach of trust by dishonestly misappropriating the said sum in violation of the agreement in which such trust was to be discharged.
This offense, she said violates section 311 of the penal code law and is punishable under section 312 of the same law.
She further accused him of forging a document titled “Investment of two hundred million” purportedly signed by one Aliyu Yahaya Lawal with intent to commit fraud and also diverting the said sum to his personal use after the funds were entrusted to him by Babbi.
“I find you guilty of all the three count charges and therefore this is my judgment. Count one you will spend one year in jail, Count two you will spend two years, and Count three it is three years you will spend in prison,” Justice Emessiri said.
Aliyu had shortly after hearing the judgment pleaded guilty and pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy considering him a breadwinner of the family suffering from cancer, a life-threatening illness, with children who are dependants.
The judge thereby gave him an option of a fine of N1.3 million for all three count charges.
