With immediate effect, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has suspended the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu.
In a letter dated March 24, 2023, and obtained by ASHENEWS, the executive committee of the Igyorov ward in Gboko local government area of Benue state, cited anti-party activities, and non payment of annual dues, as the reason for the suspension.
While 12 of the 17 ward executive committee members endorsed the letter, the ward Deputy Chairman, Ortese Helen; Ward Secretary, Vangeryina Dooyum; Public Relations Officer, Abegena Terhumba; Legal Adviser, Uko Injago; and ex-Officio, Koughir Martha, did not sign.
The letter accused Ayu and his allies of anti-party activities, which it claimed contributed to PDP’s loss in his ward and local government in the governorship election.
The Committee also accused Ayu of failure to pay his annual dues, an act, they add, that is against the party’s constitution.
According to the letter, Ayu also failed to vote during the March 18 governorship and state assembly elections.
They further alleged that most of Ayu’s closest allies worked for the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC), which resulted in the poor performance of the PDP in Igyorov Ward.
The ward chairman of Igyorov, Kashi Philip, also signed the letter alongside the exco.
