ASHENEWS reports that the Sokoto state chapter of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), said that the presidential and National Assembly elections will only hold in 3,983 of the 3,991 polling units in the state.
This online platform further reports that the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Nura Ali told newsmen while distributing sensitive electoral materials to the 23 local government electoral officers at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) branch on Wednesday.
“We are prepared for the Saturday election. As you can see, sensitive materials for the presidential and National Assembly elections, are being distributed to the local government electoral officers. We have assurances by the Commissioner of Police, that the materials will be fully protected by security personnel.
“We have 3,991 polling units in the state. However, election will not hold in eight of these units because they have zero voter registration,” the REC said.
He explained that the ballot papers, and result sheets were being distributed to the local government areas on Wednesday, following the readiness of the security agencies to protect them before they are redistributed to the polling units on Friday.
On the Biomodal Verification Accreditation System (BVAS), Dr. Ali said these had earlier been received by the state office, including back ups, and were tested and working.
“Before now, we received BVAS from the national headquarters of INEC. Although five of them were found to be faulty, they have been replaced,” he said.
ASHENEWS gathered that 16 of the 18 political parties were represented at the distribution of the sensitive materials.
