The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced training of 65 youth in vocational skills development and small scale enterprises in Kano state.

Fikpo, represented by the Kano State Office Coordinator, Inuwa Abdullahi Adamu, spoke at the opening ceremony of the Basic Business Training (BBT) held at the Directorate’s State Office in Kano state Tuesday,

According to him, most developed nations of the did not achieve economic prosperity because of the large corporations that exist, but through small scale businesses based in the informal sector that provide employment.

Fikpo said that the directorate  encouraged the formation of small businesses through its enterprise creation scheme. “The target of  these programmes are graduates, school leavers, and artisans.”

He explained that the four core programmes of the Directorate include; rural employment promotion, special public works, vocational skills development and small scale enterprises.

“We have redirected our strength at collaborating with the minded organizations; public and private to ensure that more persona  leave the unemployment market,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the Head of Department, Small Scale Enterprises, Ms. Chikodi Ike, said the entire job creation activities of the Directorate covered three broad categories which were vertically integrated one leading to the other.

She said that the training was developed as part of the effort of the directorate to equip school leavers and artisans with business skills which would enhance their capacity to succeed in their chosen business.
