A 14-year-old boy has been declared dead after he drowned in an open stream at Danzaki Village in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano state.
The Kano State Fire Fighting Department in the state confirmed this on Tuesday in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, The statement said that the corpse, when retrieved from the river showed signs of injuries.
“We received a distress call from one Ibrahim Abdullahi and we dispatched our rescue team to the scene but the victim was rescued from the stream unconscious.
“The victim was later confirmed dead by a team of medical doctors at the Gezawa General Hospital,” he said.
The statement said that the corpse has since been handed over to the district head of Danzaki village for onward delivery to the parents of the deceased.
It added that the firefighting department has commenced an investigation to unravel the cause of death.
