ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has ordered the arrest of anyone found rejecting the old Naira notes.
The Governor gave the directive in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane.
According to the Government, old Naira notes of N1000, N500, and N200 are still valid and anyone who refuses to accept the old currency should be dealt with according to the dictate of the law.
The government said that the decision of some persons to reject the old Naira notes is causing untold hardship to residents.
“it has come to the notice of Government that some people and traders were rejecting the old Naira notes from the citizens, a development that is not healthy thereby inflicting untold hardship on the people of the State”.
Recall that ASHENEWS earlier reported that the Niger State filed a suit against the federal government over the redesigning of some Naira notes.
The suit, filed at the Supreme Court is seeking an extension of the timeframe given by the CBN for the currency swap and withdrawal from circulation, the old N200, N500, and N1,000 amongst other reliefs.
