The Sokoto State Police Commissioner, CP Muhammed Usaini Gumel has said that training police and judiciary personnel in evidence-based investigation and prosecution could curb delay in justice delivery.
Gumel stated this when he led the command’s management team on courtesy visit to the Sokoto state Chief Judge, Justice Mohammad sai’du Sifawa on Thursday.
He said that the visit during the challenging time of insecurity was “to remind both judiciary and the police to increase talking to ourselves on better ways of facing the common enemies of the nation.
“It is also to look for ways of strengthening the existing cordial relationship and explore possibilities of strengthening police capacity in evidence-based investigation, prosecution and human rights.
“The training gap on these critical areas could be bridged through regular interface with police personnel as well as organising a collaborative policing workshop with personnel of Nigerian Correctional Service and other relevant security agencies by the judiciary in conjunction with the National Human Rights Commission.
“This could no doubt enhance the personnel’s capabilities in managing emerging crimes and nip in the bud issues that are causing delay in prosecution and justice delivery processes,” Gumel stressed.
Responding, the Chief judge welcomed the Police Commissioner and assured him of his continued commitment to work with the Police to facilitate quick justice delivery.
On the CP’s entourage were the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal and Investigation Departments, DCP Ibrahim Alhassan; Officer in charge of State Intelligence Bureau, the representative of Commander MOPOL 7 Squadron and the police legal team led by the head of the legal unit, SP Nasiru Lawal, Esq.
