Armed operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), have arrested a former governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, DAILY NIGERIAN has reported.
The operatives were said to have surrounded Mr Yari’s Abuja residence before gaining entry to arrest him.
Although the spokesperson for the commission, Wilson Uwujaren could not confirm the development, sources confirmed the arrest.
Other sources however told Premium Times that Mr Yari’s arrest was in connection with the agency’s ongoing investigation of the suspended Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris.
Mr Idris was suspended, following his arrest by the EFCC on May 16 over allegations of money laundering through real estate investments amounting to N80 billion.
“The Commission’s verified intelligence showed that the AGF raked off the funds through bogus consultancies and other illegal activities using proxies, family members and close associates,” Wilson Uwujaren, spokesman for the EFCC, said after the arrest.
