A book, “Rape Challenges In Nigeria” written by a student of Quantity Survey at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi, Usman Lawan has debuted.
During the public unveiling at the University Campus on Saturday, the author said the reason for the book was based on the rising cases of reported cases of rape in the country.
“My inspiration came after the story of a 12-year old girl who was raped by 11 men in Jigawa went viral. It was hard for me to imagine that such act could happen close to me; I was very disturbed.
“Rape is a source of concern for all; we must sincerely stand to fight against this menace, especially the youths,” adding that rape has a life-long effect on the victim.
The Registrar of Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, Rukayya Maleka said the author has contributed his quarter in the ongoing campaign against rape in the society.
“The male gender was seen as a protector of the weaker female, but today they are the ones that turn to molest the girlchild.”
She said the rising cases of rape in the state called for collective efforts, urging communities to be their brother’s keepers.
