The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has commended Bauchi Commissioner of Police, Sylvester Alabi for the quick response during the recent protest by the students of Bauchi State College of Agriculture, Yelwa.

The National Director, Administration and Strategy, Mohammed Hassan made the commendation at a press conference held in Bauchi on Saturday.

Hassan, who described the action of the Police and his officers as highly commendable, said that the prompt response brought the situation under control, “in a  more professional manner and in line with international best policing practice.

“This action has prevented further escalation of the protest and it’s possible degeneration to a violent situation.

“Furthermore, payment of medical bills for students who sustained various degree of injuries during the incident and replacement of the damaged equipments of the AIT Reporter, who was monitoring the protest showed that the CP is not only a professional but a true public relations practitioner.

“The gesture exhibited by the Commissioner and his well coordinated team will  no doubt foster Peace and strengthen the existing mutual relationship between the Nigerian police force, Nigerian Students and the general public.

“The  action has also demonstrated a high level of capacity and dialogue approach in resolving conflicts and land dispute of this nature. We are using this medium to call on all Nigerian Students to always adopt dialogue as the best way of resolving conflicts as peace Ambassadors at all times.

“This gesture is the first of its kind in the state and we call on Nigerian Students to continue to see the Nigerian police force as their friends in their respective campuses and ignore any act capable of bringing violence to the campuses,” the students stated.

He further described the action of CP Alabi as a true definition of effective policing in the 21 first century, which sets a standard to enhance community policing in Bauchi state.

“We call on others to emulate his suits when matters of this nature unfold in the future.

“We are proud to be associated with this exceptional police officer and will continue to support him in our capacity to foster peace and unity in Bauchi state and the country at large.

“The commissioner is an icon of diligent service, a sincere and caring father of Nigerian students,” NANS assured.
