Two final year students from the Department of Estate Management and Valuation of the Federal University of Technology, FUT, Minna have won the trophy for the 4th quiz competition organised by the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV).
The Dean, School of Environmental Technology, Prof. Remi Olagunju who presented the trophy won by the duo of Enwerem Precious and Alake Sheye, to the university management in a brief ceremony at the Senate Chambers, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano on Monday, disclosed that the students clinched the top prize at the competition held during the 51st anniversary and annual conference of NIESV in Abuja.
According to Prof. Olagunju, the students who are both first class candidates, won the competition at the local, national and regional levels and were given cash prize of N75,000 and the department was also given the same amount with a trophy.
The Vice – Chancellor, Prof Abdullahi Bala, presenting the prizes to the students and their coach, congratulated the participants for the success, adding that the management deemed it necessary to support the students’ participation in the event so that they will not lose out in the fun of attending such conferences.
According to him, the honour was not only for FUT Minna but to their colleagues. “Hearing the name of the University being mentioned as one of the best universities, actually reinforces the claim of being a leader and being the best.”
The VC noted that the School of Environmental Technology is actually among the first in this session to bring laurels to the University.
He urged the students to continue to maintain that feat as it is a pointer to other departments to put in their best and at the end the outcome will always be favourable.
