Sokoto state government has earmarked N11 billion for the reconstruction of Shagari- Tureta road and the purchase of 12,000 metric tonnes of NPK and UREA fertilizers for 2021 wet season.
The executive council meeting chaired by the deputy governor, Manir Dan’Iya on Thursday, approved N7.6 billion for the road reconstruction and N3.4 billion for fertilizers purchase, respectively.
The Commissioner of Information, Isah Galadanci joined by that of Land and Housing, Surajo Gatawa; Finance, Abdussamad Dasuki; Health, Ali Inname; Higher Education, Bello Muhammad and Justice, Suleiman Usman, briefed newsmen shortly after the meeting.
According to Galadanci, the council also resolved to offer automatic employment to the state indigenes who graduated with first class and distinction in their respective degrees or Higher National Diploma, HND, once they complete their mandatory one year National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, scheme.
He added that the council equally approved the variation claim of the contractor handling the 500 housing units at Gidan Salanke area to the tune of N1.9 billion, stressing that with this development, the housing units were expected to be completed in 10 months.
Galadanci also explained that the council approved N115 million for the acquisition of office accommodation for the Sokoto State Geographic Information System, SOGIS, as well as approved the construction of a new 500-seats capacity auditorium at Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic at the cost of over N630 million.
The auditorium is scheduled to be completed within 9 months.
