The week is organised by the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) and the Sultanate Council, Sokoto, under the theme “The Sokoto Caliphate: An Egalitarian Model for Peace, Justice, Unity and Sustainable Development.”
While Bello Idris will serve as discussant, Prof. Isa Muhammad Maishanu, Commissioner, Ministry for Higher Education, Sokoto State, will chair the session.
In the same vein, Prof. Bunza will review a book, “Shaykh Uthman Bin Fodio and His Flagbearers: Their Contributions to the Islamic Revivalist Movement”, at the book’s unveiling on Monday, 2nd November, 2026, in Sokoto.
The invitation is contained in a letter dated 10th October, 2026, signed by the Committee’s Chairman, Prof. Ahmed Tijjani Mora.
According to Prof. Mora, the book project began about four years ago, when a group of individuals from the fourteen emirates that formed part of the now-defunct Sokoto Caliphate voluntarily came together.
“Their aim was to add to the existing body of literature on the Caliphate, which was established under the leadership of the nineteenth-century Islamic reformer, Shaykh Uthman Bin Fodio.”
He added that the Sultan has accepted to unveil the book, which forward he wrote, as part of the 2026 Danfodio Week activities in Sokoto.
The occasion will coincide with the twentieth anniversary of the Sultan’s ascension to the throne as the Amirul Mu’minin.
Prof. Mora said. Bunza’s participation “will undoubtedly add considerable academic value and distinction to the occasion.”
