Sokoto governor Aminu Tambuwal has said that he is not surprised that the All Progressives Congress, APC, would not participate in the local government council elections scheduled to hold in the state on March 27.
The governor said at the inaugural zonal campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the council polls, held in Gwadabawa town, headquarters of Gwadabawa local government of the state.
The Sokoto East is comprised of Isa, Rabah, Goronyo, Illela, Gada, Sabon Birni, Wurno and Gwadabawa local governments councils.
According to Tambuwal, the APC had lost focus as well as confidence of Nigerians for failed promises, adding that the party would soon collapse and give for his party, the PDP to give Nigerians a purposeful leadership that they desire.
“I am not surprised at the Sokoto APC’s resolution not to participate in the polls coming up on March 27, 2021.
“They know they have not done anything and have nothing to offer to the state,” Tambuwal said.
While describing third tier of government as closest and important democratic structure to the people at the grassroots, Tambuwal called on party supporters to come out and vote for the candidates of the party.
“Councils polls is key and relevant. You should mobilise yourselves en-masse to vote. Electorates at the grassroots, see councils polls as an important aspect and integral part of democratic process that will give them the opportunity to decide for themselves leaders of their choice,” he further said.
Earlier, the state APC Chairman, Bello Goronyo presented the eight chairmanship candidates and announced that 12,000 members of the APC had defected to the PDP.
