The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a combination of sunshine, cloudiness, thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across different parts of Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday.
The three-day weather outlook, released in Abuja on Sunday, indicated that the northern region would experience sunny skies with patches of clouds on Monday, with thunderstorms and moderate rainfall expected in some states.
NiMet said parts of Taraba, Adamawa and Kaduna could experience thunderstorms with moderate rain during the morning hours. By the afternoon or evening, similar conditions are expected in parts of Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa and Taraba states.
In the North-Central region, the agency forecast morning thunderstorms and moderate rainfall over parts of Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory. It added that parts of Kogi, Benue, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa and the FCT could experience thunderstorms later in the day.
The southern region is also expected to experience rainfall, with moderate rains forecast over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Lagos and Bayelsa in the morning. NiMet expects moderate rainfall across the region later in the day.
For Tuesday, thunderstorms and moderate rains are expected over parts of Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa and Taraba during the morning, while parts of Borno, Jigawa, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Taraba and Adamawa could experience thunderstorms later in the day.
The North-Central region is expected to record thunderstorms and moderate rains, while light rainfall is anticipated over parts of Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Lagos and Rivers in the southern region during the morning.
NiMet’s forecast for Wednesday indicates partly cloudy skies over the northern region, with chances of thunderstorms and light rain in parts of Bauchi, Jigawa and Yobe during the morning. Thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected across the region later in the day.
The agency also forecast sunny skies with patches of clouds over the North-Central region in the morning, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rainfall later.
In the South, NiMet expects a generally cloudy atmosphere, with light rains possible over parts of Edo, Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Rivers during the morning, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rains across the region.
NiMet warned that strong winds could precede thunderstorms in affected areas and advised residents to secure loose objects to prevent accidents.
It also cautioned against driving or walking through floodwaters, particularly as persistent rainfall along coastal areas of the South could trigger flash floods.
The agency advised residents to disconnect electrical appliances during thunderstorms and stay away from tall trees because of the risk of falling branches.
Airline operators were also advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to support effective flight planning, while members of the public were urged to monitor the agency’s weather updates.
