President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has left Nigeria for a three-week vacation in Europe, taking a break from his official schedule as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gather momentum.
The President departed Abuja on Sunday for London, the United Kingdom, according to his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Onanuga said Tinubu would spend three weeks on the trip, which he described as a working vacation.
Although details of the President’s itinerary were not immediately made public, the Presidency said he was expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the break.
His departure comes at a politically significant moment, with parties and political actors stepping up preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu, who is seeking re-election, is expected to resume his political engagements after the vacation as campaign activities intensify.
“President Tinubu is expected to return home after the working vacation to join the hectic campaign for the January 2027 election,” Onanuga said.
The President’s trip comes shortly after Vice-President Kashim Shettima returned from a 12-day vacation on August 18.
Shettima has since resumed official duties and travelled to Luanda, Angola, on Saturday to represent Tinubu at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the African Union Assembly.
With the 2027 election drawing closer, Tinubu’s return is expected to coincide with an increasingly active political season as the ruling All Progressives Congress and opposition parties intensify their mobilisation and strategies for the polls.
