Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has raised the alarm over a “mysterious” credit alert in one of his private bank accounts.
Atiku’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the transfer was made by an individual unknown to the former Vice President.
Shaibu said the transaction carried the narration, “Contribution Electioneering Campaign,” but stressed that neither Atiku nor his campaign solicited or authorised the payment.
According to him, the affected account is strictly private, with its details not publicly available.
“The circumstances surrounding the transfer are deeply troubling to His Excellency,” the statement said.
Shaibu questioned how an unknown person obtained the confidential banking details, warning that the incident raised serious concerns about the security of private financial information.
He said the possibility that the information was obtained through someone with privileged access could not be ruled out.
“If established, this would constitute a grave abuse of power capable of exposing the account holder to kidnappers, terrorists, bandits, fraudsters and other criminal elements,” he said.
Shaibu described the incident as part of what he called a series of suspicious activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He urged Nigerians not to be distracted by what he described as “tired tactics that smack of character assassination,” insisting that Atiku remained focused on offering credible leadership and practical solutions to the country’s challenges.
