The Nigerian government has launched an application portal for Nigerians seeking affordable credit to purchase laptops, smartphones, tablets and other digital devices under its C.L.I.C.K.D. Programme.
The initiative, implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, is aimed at expanding access to digital tools for education, remote work, freelancing, entrepreneurship and other technology-driven activities.
The programme is designed to enable eligible Nigerians to acquire digital devices through affordable credit and instalment payments rather than paying the full cost upfront.
It also seeks to expand access to digital tools for learning, remote work, freelancing, business development, software development and content creation, while supporting local manufacturing through the prioritisation of locally assembled laptops.
How to apply
Interested applicants are required to visit the official C.L.I.C.K.D. application portal and select the “I’m Interested” option to begin the registration process.
Applicants will then be required to provide details including their state of residence and employment status. Available employment categories include salary earner, freelancer or self-employed person, business owner, student, job seeker and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.
Applicants may also provide information about their monthly income, with the form offering income categories ranging from below ₦100,000 to above ₦1 million.
The application form further asks candidates to indicate whether they participate in recognised digital talent programmes, including the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme, Andela Learning Community, Learn2Earn, ALX, HNG Internship, AltSchool Africa and Genesys Tech Hub.
Applicants must also select the type of device they require, such as a laptop, smartphone, tablet or another digital device.
They are expected to state the intended purpose of the device, with options including learning and professional certification, work or remote work, freelancing, business growth, school, software development and content creation.
Before submitting the application, candidates must confirm that the information supplied is accurate, consent to being contacted regarding their application and authorise CREDICORP and its partners to use the submitted information to assess their eligibility.
Pilot phase
The initial pilot phase of the programme involves the distribution of 1,000 laptops and is currently focused on fellows of the Federal Government’s 3MTT Programme.
CREDICORP said the rollout commenced in Abuja, where 77 beneficiaries had received devices, while the remaining laptops would be distributed to qualified beneficiaries in other states in phases.
Although the application form lists several other digital talent programmes, CREDICORP has publicly confirmed 3MTT fellows as the beneficiaries of the current pilot phase, with the initiative expected to expand subsequently.
Key financing details, including the interest rate, repayment period and any required down payment, had not been publicly disclosed at the time of the report.
