The National Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (NIEEE), Mr. Alkali Tijjani, says the institution must take a leading role in driving Nigeria’s technological transformation.
Tijjani said this was necessary in view of rapid global advancements in engineering and digital innovation.
He stated this in an interview with reporters on Wednesday in Maiduguri after emerging as the national chairman of the professional body.
Tijjani said the engineering profession was undergoing unprecedented changes driven by digital technologies, renewable energy, automation, and artificial intelligence.
According to him, the institution has a responsibility that goes beyond advancing the interests of its members.
“Our responsibility extends beyond advancing the interests of our members. We must continue to uphold the highest standards of professional ethics, encourage continuous learning, promote research and innovation, and provide practical solutions to the technological and infrastructural challenges confronting our nation,” he said.
The chairman emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between NIEEE and government institutions, academia, industry players, regulatory agencies, and international professional bodies to enhance the institution’s influence and relevance.
He pledged to run an inclusive, transparent, and accountable administration that would give every chapter and member a voice in shaping the future of the institution.
Tijjani identified institutional strengthening, membership development, digital transformation, professional capacity building, strategic partnerships, youth engagement, and increased visibility for NIEEE as key priorities of his administration.
He also charged chapter chairmen across the country to promote professionalism, unity, and innovation through technical seminars, public lectures, industrial visits, mentoring initiatives, and community outreach programmes.
The chairman urged young engineers and student members to embrace excellence, innovation, and lifelong learning, assuring them of opportunities for professional growth and leadership development.
He expressed confidence that with unity, professionalism, and a shared commitment to service, the institution would achieve greater heights.
Tijjani reiterated NIEEE’s commitment to strengthening its role as a leading force for technological advancement and national development in Nigeria.
