The Chairperson of Oye Local Government Council, Mrs. Clara Bamisile, has warned residents against building any structures on waterways to prevent flooding.
Bamisile gave the warning in an interview with reporters on Sunday in Oye-Ekiti.
According to her, building on waterways will block the free flow of water and endanger the lives and property of residents.
She warned landowners to stop selling waterways to residents as developable land, noting that any structure built on a waterway would be demolished.
“I want to warn residents who are fond of buying plots of land on waterways and building houses on them to stop immediately before they waste their money.

“We will no longer tolerate lawlessness and violations of government directives that prohibit building houses on waterways.
“Any houses built on waterways will be removed to prevent loss of lives and property during floods,” she warned.
The chairperson disclosed that a task force will be set up to curb the construction of buildings on waterways.
